LeTort Spring Run
The river that taught America how to fish flat water.
The LeTort Spring Run flows through Carlisle, in the Cumberland Valley. It is a small, cold, weed-choked limestone stream, and it is the river most directly associated with the modern American technical-water tradition.
Vincent Marinaro wrote A Modern Dry-Fly Code on this water. Charlie Fox, Ed Shenk, and the rest of the Letort regulars developed the terrestrial-fishing canon — the Letort Hopper, the Letort Cricket, the cress-bug imitations — on this single creek.
