Green River (Flaming Gorge tailwater)
Gin-clear, fish-rich, and famous for a cicada hatch.
The Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam near Dutch John, Utah is one of the most-fished tailwaters in the American West, and for one simple reason: trout density. UDWR surveys have repeatedly counted 8,000+ trout per mile in the upper A Section. You see them.
The river runs through a deep red-rock canyon for the famous A Section (Flaming Gorge Dam to Little Hole, ~7 miles), then opens through the B Section (Little Hole to Indian Crossing, ~9 miles), and finally the more remote C Section (Indian Crossing to Swallow Canyon, ~9 miles).
