Pere Marquette River
Wild & Scenic, flies-only, and a Great Lakes steelhead classic.
The Pere Marquette flows roughly 60 miles through west-central Michigan to Lake Michigan. The mainstream is a federally designated National Wild & Scenic River, and the 'Flies-Only' stretch from M-37 downstream to Gleason's Landing is one of the oldest dedicated flies-only stretches in the country.
The river is two fisheries. Year-round it is a resident brown trout stream with rich hatches. From fall through spring it is a major Great Lakes steelhead and king-salmon migration river — the salmon were first planted in Michigan rivers including the Pere Marquette in the late 1960s.
