Michigan

The birthplace of Trout Unlimited and the home of the Hex.

Trout Unlimited was founded on the banks of the Au Sable in 1959 — Michigan is, in a literal sense, the birthplace of the modern American cold-water conservation movement.

The Au Sable 'Holy Water,' the Pere Marquette flies-only stretch, and the Manistee form the core of one of the country's deepest trout-stream portfolios. Add the Great Lakes steelhead and king-salmon runs on the same rivers in fall and spring, and Michigan offers more total fly-fishing variety than almost any state east of the Rockies.
