Chattahoochee River

An urban tailwater that runs through Atlanta.

The Chattahoochee runs out of Lake Lanier at USACE's Buford Dam and stays cold enough for trout for roughly 48 miles through metro Atlanta. The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, established in 1978, protects access to most of the cold-water reach.

Georgia WRD stocks rainbows; brown trout holdover and some grow large. The river is unique among American trout fisheries for running through the heart of a major city.
