Kinnickinnic River ("The Kinni")

A Pierce/St. Croix County northern-Driftless river running through River Falls and into a roadless limestone canyon above the St. Croix River. Entirely wild brown trout (unstocked since the early 1970s, per WI DNR) with very high fish-per-mile counts in the upper reaches.

The upper river fishes like an intimate meadow spring creek; the lower canyon is rugged and remote — plan exits accordingly.

Removal of the Junction Falls dam in the city of River Falls is reshaping access and habitat — check current conditions before going.

Caddis, BWOs, Tricos, midges, scuds and hoppers all have their seasons.
