Black Earth Creek

A fertile Dane County limestone spring creek long recognized by Trout Unlimited as one of America's top trout streams. It runs through a mix of woods and pastures west of Madison, with strong caddis and Blue-Winged Olive hatches and accessible DNR easements.

Heavier angling pressure than remote Driftless creeks — fine tippet and natural drifts matter.

Caddis and BWOs are the signature hatches; Pink Squirrels and scuds work year-round.

Special regulations apply in several reaches — check the WI DNR trout-stream map.
