Hex Hatch ID, Timing & Best Flies

Hex (Hexagenia) describes large pale burrowing mayflies. See the natural insect beside a matching fishing fly and compare its field marks.

Regional month ranges and hook sizes follow our hatch calendar; local conditions vary. Compare each life stage with the fly and water-column placement best suited to it.
